The platform
Features
What a column on the record includes, from the byline to the archive.
VeriTaus borrows one idea from the newspaper of record: every piece of writing should say who wrote it, when it appeared and where it belongs. Everything on this page serves that idea. Readers need nothing but a browser; columnists need only an invitation.
I. The column
A page under your own name
Each columnist receives a column at its own address, /your-handle/, with a portrait, a short biography and, if you wish, a link to your own website.
Sections you define
Divide the column into sections of your choosing. Each section has its own page, and readers can move between sections from the column’s tabs.
An archive kept in order
Every story is dated and filed. The archive is paginated, so a piece written years ago is as easy to locate as this week’s.
An introduction you curate
The head of the column can carry a short introduction and a set of links you select yourself, which makes it the front page of your body of work.
II. The story
Signed and dated
Each story carries its byline, its publication date and, where it has been revised, the date of the update. Readers always know who said what, and when.
Cover images and illustrations
Open a story with a cover photograph and place images in the text. Images are hosted on the site itself, alongside the writing.
Topics across the platform
Tag a story with topics. Each topic page gathers related stories from every columnist who has written on the subject.
A table of contents for long pieces
Longer stories receive a table of contents, so readers can see the structure of an argument and go straight to the part they need.
Ordinary, honest links
Links in a story are plain links. Cite your sources and point readers to your own website as you would in print.
III. The readers
Free to read, no account
Every column and every story can be read without signing up, signing in or accepting cookies.
Comments, reviewed first
Readers may respond with a name and a comment. Nothing appears beneath a story until a moderator has read and approved it.
Feeds for every column
Each column publishes its own RSS feed at /your-handle/feed.xml, and the whole platform publishes one at /feed.xml.
IV. The press room
Plain, fast pages
Pages are rendered on the server as plain HTML and CSS. They load quickly and read comfortably on a phone, a tablet or a desktop screen.
Typeset for every language
Headlines and body text are set in typefaces with full support for Vietnamese and other accented scripts, so diacritics never fall back to a substitute font.
No tracking
There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking pixel. Readers are not given cookies.
